My broad experience in theatre, encompassing lighting, sound, stage management and front of house management, means I am uniquely positioned to act as a Production Manager, having a good understanding of all aspects of a theatrical production. My experience of productions in non-theatre spaces and community venues means that I have a good awareness of potential issues around power, access, and health and safety.
Non-traditional venues may be unused to the stringent health and safety regulations required for a theatrical production. I work with the venue to ensure that their needs are also met and that arrangements suit all parties. Many venues have insufficient or intermittent power supplies and I work with the venue and designers to ensure that the production will not overload systems. Without a purpose-designed space, access and sight lines can be difficult, so I work closely with the designers, director and crew to ensure that their vision is realised for the audience. Participation is a key element in the shows that I production manage, so as well as enabling young and non-professional members of the cast to experience theatre, I often work with technical volunteers, providing a work-experience opportunity which in many cases has led to a career in technical theatre.
I have worked as a Production Manager for Music in the Minster, Northumberland Theatre Company and One for All Productions. I am a member of the Stage Management Association and the Association of British Theatre Technicians.
