May 2013

Artist

Broadacre

Northern Creative Solutions,
Broadacre House, Newcastle

I was among seven emerging artists invited to create an art installation in response to one room in a disused office building.  I created a light- and soundscape responding not only to the physical presence of the space but also to its history.  I used the potential of the space to allow intimacy and revelation. An individual became immersed as one of many; as an eavesdropper in a crowded room.  It was structured as an explorative journey rather than a piece to be read upon the first encounter

Mar 2013

Lighting Designer

Dissolve

Awkward City,
New Diorama Theatre, London

An unusual blend of film and theatre in which the actor’s movements were filmed and projected onto a screen behind the stage.  The audience watched the film whilst it was being made, with lighting, staging and props all being moved around the actor and the camera.  The design was therefore extremely flexible and all at floor level so it could be adjusted and refocused during the performance.  Both myself and the cameraman were on stage during the performance, visible to the audience and responsible for all the scenic and props movements.

Sep 2012-Nov 2012

Production Manager

Whistle Down the Wind

Music in the Minster, Sunderland Minster

As well as managing all technical elements of this production, I was also responsible for lighting, sound and AV design, and acted as stage manager during the performances.  The church venue created challenges for rigging, power supply and staging, as well as requiring the set to be moved and replaced between technical rehearsals and the performances to allow for church services to take place.  A restricted budget meant that I managed a very small team of volunteers, so was very involved in the practical elements of building the set and running the show in the venue.  I was also responsible for risk assessments and all aspects of health and safety for the production.

Se7en Sins

Stephanie Jong, Stephenson Works, Newcastle

This was a two-hour improvised dance piece based on the Seven Deadly Sins which was performed as part of the Late Shows.  The venue is a former factory, and is therefore restricted in rigging options and power availability.  Because the performance was improvised I created an improvisational design which could be refocused and
re-gelled for different effects within the performance.

Feb 2011

Lighting Designer

Life After Life/
The Heart of Him
